Certificate of Submission

🏠 What Is a Certificate of Completion (COC)?

A Certificate of Completion is a document signed by the contractor to confirm that the contracted work—such as a roof replacement, siding, or other storm-related repairs—has been fully completed to satisfaction.

💵 Why Is It Important for Insurance Claims?

When a homeowner files an insurance claim, the insurance company may issue payments in two parts:

1. Actual Cash Value (ACV):
The initial payment based on the current (depreciated) value of the damaged materials.
2. Recoverable Depreciation:
The remaining amount that’s withheld until the work is completed.
This is only paid after the insurer receives proof that the job is done.

That’s where the Certificate of Completion comes in.

✅ How the Certificate of Completion Helps Release Depreciation

Once the contractor finishes the work, the contractor signs the COC. It is then submitted to the insurance company, showing that:
•All repairs/replacements covered by the claim are complete
•The work was done according to the scope of loss
•The contractor met the agreed standards
Once received and approved, the insurance company will release the recoverable depreciation.

📄 What It Typically Includes:
•Homeowner’s name and property address
•Contractor’s name and company info
•Date the work was completed
•Description of completed work (e.g., “Full roof replacement”)
•Amount of RCV, amount of depreciation
